Pseudo-gout

Pseudo-gout (chondrocalcinosis also) refers to a similar disease of the joints of gout, but has a fundamentally different mechanism. While urate crystals in gout tend to play a role, pseudo-gout is the degeneration of the cartilage.

The differential diagnosis of gout is often just as with infested pseudo gout, especially large joints (often first), like the knee. Radio logically a density increase may be present in cartilage.

The cause may be both kidney disease and a hyperparathyroidism. Usually the disease is idiopathic. Therapeutically, an anti-inflammatory, acute treatment to relieve the pain is needed.
